Chinanews.com, July 9 "In the face of changes in the situation caused by the impact of the epidemic, Chinese companies still have confidence in the prospects of foreign markets, insist on actively exploring the international market with the protection of intellectual property rights, and promote'going out' in a stable and orderly manner." Ge Shu, director of the Strategic Planning Department of the State Intellectual Property Office, said on the 9th.

The State Intellectual Property Office held a regular press conference for the third quarter on the 9th. When talking about the topic of "whether the epidemic has an impact on the intellectual property rights applications of Chinese market entities", Ge Shu made the above statement.

Ge Shu introduced that the sudden new coronary pneumonia epidemic had a big impact on economic and social development. Since the outbreak, the State Intellectual Property Office has seriously implemented the Party Central Committee and the State Council's major decision-making arrangements, issued and implemented various IP-based facilitation relief measures, and focused on bailing out and stimulating market vitality. "From the statistics of the first half of the year, the domestic applications of my country's market players continue to recover and improve, and the layout of outward applications has been steadily and rapidly advancing."

From the perspective of domestic applications, in the first half of this year, my country's domestic patent and trademark applications achieved double year-on-year growth. Judging from the monthly trend, domestic applications were greatly affected by the epidemic in February and experienced a relatively large decline, but then recovered quickly and continued to climb. The current year-on-year growth rate has exceeded the pre-epidemic level. From the perspective of applicant types, domestic enterprises occupy the main position of the application and contribute the most to the growth of the application.

Ge Shu said that from the perspective of the layout of international applications, in the first half of the year, Chinese applicants' PCT international patent applications filed with the State Intellectual Property Office increased by 20.7% year-on-year, and the Madrid international trademark registration applications filed increased by 36.0% year-on-year. "This shows that in the face of the changes in the situation brought about by the impact of the epidemic, Chinese enterprises still have confidence in the prospects of foreign markets, insist on actively exploring the international market with the protection of intellectual property rights, and promote'going out' in a stable and orderly manner."

Ge Shu pointed out that in general, my country’s current intellectual property applications are based on the domestic market and continue to expand the international market. The development trend is good, which is conducive to supporting innovation to drive high-quality economic development and promoting the improvement of the export-oriented economic development level. Next, the State Intellectual Property Office will further implement a series of intellectual property policy measures to respond to epidemic prevention and control and serve market players, providing more powerful support for shaping a better business environment, stimulating and protecting innovation.
