More than 182,000 children in Sweden grow up with at least one parent with debts, and more are expected to debt ahead, which the corona pandemic can play a part in.

- The corona eruption has affected the whole society. And there is a risk that many, many more children will grow up in indebted families in the future, says Tina Häggmark, communicator at Kronofogden.

According to the survey, Halland is better off. With a national average of 8.4 per cent indebted parents, Halland is at 6.3 per cent, and is thus the county with the second lowest proportion of indebted parents in the country.

But the situation differs between the municipalities in Halland. In Kungsbacka, the proportion of indebted parents is 3.7 per cent, while Hylte is at 11.6 per cent.

"Probably about many more"

Tina Häggmark points out that there is a large dark figure in the statistics. She also believes that many more parents will have financial problems in the future.

- But probably it's about many more children across the country. Our figures only show those who have an ongoing case with us, she tells SVT News.
