Sex workers demonstrated on Friday outside the upper house of the German parliament, the Bundesrat, to demand the reopening of brothels, closed for almost four months in Germany due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a country where prostitution is legal and regulated by law, they have been deprived of income since Germany took drastic measures to try to contain the spread of the virus which has killed more than 9,000 people in the country.

"Open the brothels now!" "," The State n us ... but does not pay! "," Our sector is forced to be illegal "appeared notably on placards and banners brandished by the demonstrators with an inflatable doll dressed in a red nightie in front of the Bundesrat which represents the Regions, competent in health matters.

The "forgotten politicians"?

“Almost all shops are reopening in Germany (…): hairdressing salons, massage salons, beauty salons, tantric massages, tattoos and fitness, catering, hotels, saunas”, argues the Federation BSD sexual services in a statement. But the brothels "seem to have been forgotten by political leaders," adds the organization.

According to her, many prostitutes have therefore decided to go to practice their profession in countries neighboring Germany such as Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, the Czech Republic or the Netherlands "where prostitution is again authorized »Under certain hygienic conditions.

Austria in particular reopened its brothels on July 1. In Germany, some regional states, such as Thuringia, also plan to authorize their reopening.
