The Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani received Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who arrived in Doha today on a working visit.

The two leaders' talks covered regional and international developments, strategic relations between the two countries, and ways to support them.

This visit comes in light of the strong relations and strategic alliance between Ankara and Doha, especially since the blockade imposed on Qatar in 2017, and the agreement that resulted in the establishment of a Turkish military base in Qatar.

It also comes in light of the growing Qatari investments in Turkey, especially in the field of military industries, as well as consensus on various regional files, most notably Libya and Syria.

It is noteworthy that this visit comes days after the Libyan government of reconciliation - with support from Turkey - achieved huge military victories in Tripoli and the arrival of its forces to the borders of the city of Sirte, east of Tripoli.

This is Erdogan's first visit outside the country following the outbreak of the new Corona virus (Covid-19), and accompanied by officials on the visit, the most prominent of whom are the Treasury and Finance Ministers, Barat Albayraq and Defense Khulusi Akar.
