The alarm about the fire in a smaller apartment block in Härnösand came shortly after 4am on Monday morning. An apartment in the ground floor was flared when the emergency services arrived at the scene and the fire spread quickly.

"Two apartments are completely burnt out and we have a fire in the attic too," says Thomas Berglund, intervention manager, rescue service High Coast Ådalen.

One person has been killed, according to the rescue service. This is about a man in his 50s. Other residents have been evacuated.

It is a wooden house with six apartments, located right next to Solenskolan in central Härnösand. The emergency services are now working to prevent the fire from spreading further. By 10 o'clock in the morning, the fire was still not under control.

The police have blocked the area so that the rescue service can work undisturbed.

The man's relatives are notified.
