June 28, 2020 After 22 years at the helm of the Piccolo Teatro in Milan, Sergio Escobar has resigned.

Initially he had given his willingness to stay until November, then there was talk of the natural expiry of his mandate in September.

In the letter sent to the Minister of Cultural Heritage Dario Franceschini Escobar, on the other hand, he presented the "resignation as director of the theater, starting from 31 July 2020".

At this point the time to find his replacement accelerates, which will have to be chosen within a month.

The minister wanted to publicly thank Escobar: "Il Piccolo - he said - is an Italian excellence, a point of reference for European theatrical production, a lively reality that is very attentive to new generations that over the years has been able to accentuate its international dimension and All this has been possible thanks to the skilful work of Sergio Escobar who has guided him with passion and authority over the past twenty-two years, obtaining important results from an artistic, public and economic point of view ".
