Clashes resumed between Yemeni government forces and Emirati-backed transitional council militants in the southern governorate of Abyan, according to military sources reported to the island.

The same sources attributed this development to the stalled efforts of the observer team from the Saudi-Emirati coalition to stop the ceasefire between government forces and the Transitional Armed Forces in the province. The sources added that the team returned to Aden after visiting the contact lines and met the two parties.

The sources pointed out that the Yemeni army officers requested clear and precise instructions on the validity of the ceasefire, and they confirmed that they were receiving their orders from official government sources and not through a Saudi officer.

The Saudi-Emirati coalition announced on Monday that a cease-fire had been reached between the Yemeni government and the Emirati-backed transitional council in Abyan, after the transitional council took control of Socotra (southern Yemen).

Meanwhile, the Sheikh of Socotra, Sheikh Issa bin Salem bin Yaqout, said that the control of the Transitional Council over Socotra was due to the purchase of the loyalties of military officers and leaders of some of the camps of the legitimacy.

Bin Yaqout added that the UAE summoned a group of Socotra officers to Abu Dhabi months before controlling the archipelago and persuaded them to change their loyalties.

He pointed out that the legitimate government and parliament insulted themselves by weakening their positions on developments, pointing out that President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi did not show the Yemenis and the Yemenis do not know what happened to him.

In this context, the Sheikh of Socotra, Sheikh, said that the Yemenis no longer have any confidence in the Saudi-Emirati coalition. He appealed to all Yemenis to work to expel Saudi and Emirati forces from Yemen.

Yemeni delegation to Riyadh

Meanwhile, Yemeni Information Minister Muammar Al-Iryani said that the President of the Yemeni House of Representatives, his deputies, presidential advisors, heads of parliamentary blocs, party leaders and political components will arrive tonight in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

Al-Iryani added that the visit comes within the framework of the consultations that the Yemeni president is conducting and the efforts made by Saudi Arabia to implement the Riyadh agreement.

The Yemeni government and the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council signed an agreement in Riyadh last November after Majlis militants seized the city of Aden, the interim capital of the government.

The implementation of the provisions of the Riyadh Agreement has been stalled since that time, and the Transitional Council declared self-management of the areas it controls, and battles erupted between the forces of the Council and government forces in the governorate of Abyan.

Reuters reported a few days ago that Saudi Arabia had presented proposals to implement the terms of the Riyadh agreement.
