Mayor LR of the 11th and 12 arrondissements of Marseille and candidate for his re-election Julien Ravier announced Friday that he had asked his campaign manager to "step back" after the revelations on suspicions of proxy fraud in his sector. "I learned with emotion through testimony in the press that powers of attorney could have been obtained in non-compliance with the procedures in force during the municipal elections", wrote in a press release Julien Ravier, who also announced that he had asked a bailiff to carry out a full audit "on the different target locations".

The campaign teams of LR candidates for the municipal election in Marseille have been at the heart of a preliminary investigation for a week into suspicions of fraud. The investigators are looking into the establishment of proxies for the second round in the camp of the candidate LR for mayor, Martine Vassal, according to a "simplified" procedure but which could be illegal, in particular in the sector of Julien Ravier.

A case in an Ehpad

The investigation opened by the Marseille prosecution is also looking into the case of an accommodation facility for dependent elderly people (Ehpad) in the 12th arrondissement in which around fifty powers of attorney have been drawn up for residents, without their knowledge, according to several families. If these powers of attorney cannot be formally linked to one candidate or another, the signing lists show among the representatives of these residents the names of several relatives of Julien Ravier, including his chief of staff, an elected official or even the director general services of his town hall.

"At no time did the management of the establishment organize the proxy vote, the latter being then occupied in preserving the residents from the crisis of the Covid-19 which was looming", for its part declared Friday in a communicated the general management of the Univi group, which owns the Ehpad in question. Thursday, the investigators began to interview the 51 residents concerned as well as the employees of the Marseille establishment, said the management of the Univi group. Believing that the nursing home "is today suffering damage linked to the possible deterioration of its image", the group's general management plans to file a complaint against X.

The RN in the breach

During a press conference, the head of the list of the National Rally (RN) in the 11th and 12th arrondissement of Marseille, Franck Allisio, announced his intention, if judicial information were to be opened, to bring civil action for have access to the file. At his side the leader of the RN Stéphane Ravier estimated that one had "touched the bottom of the sewers of the Marseilles policy". "In his place, I would resign, or in any case, I would withdraw from this electoral campaign," he said of Martine Vassal.

During the first round, Martine Vassal, however a favorite, had been beaten over the whole city, where the ballot took place by sectors, by the candidate of a union of the left called Marseille Spring, Michèle Rubirola. The RN came in third position.
