“Each of you begins a career in the army at a crucial time in American history. We are restoring the fundamental principles according to which the work of American soldiers is not to rebuild other countries, but to protect our country from enemies. We are ending the era of endless wars, ”Trump said during a speech at the Military Academy at West Point with an appeal to the cadets.

The president also said that it is not the responsibility of the US military to resolve ancient conflicts in “distant lands that many people have not even heard of.”

“We are not the police of this world, but let our enemies know that if our people are threatened, we will never hesitate,” Trump added, noting that from now on the US “will only fight to win.”

In October 2019, Trump, speaking about the situation in Syria, said that the time had come for the United States to “get out of endless wars” and return its soldiers home.

According to the head of state, Turkey, Europe and Russia should now cope with this situation.
