- The police have become much more offensive. I see that as a success, Damberg says of Operation Rimfrost.

He points out that the police seized many weapons, imprisoned "quite" many and reduced explosives on streets and squares.

- But they have not reduced the number of fires and blasts in the short term, he says.

TT: Didn't you hope that the number of fires and blasts would have decreased?

- Yes it is. Undoubtedly so, says Damberg.

He now expects that the police's more offensive approach will continue and spread to more police regions.

"What is still hopeful is that where the police have gathered the most power in Rimfrost, especially in Malmö, there we see quite sharp declines in the violence," says Damberg.

Not worried

TT: Are you worried about what happens in Malmö and Uppsala when Rimfrost is wound up?

- No, I'm not, because in Malmö Rimfrost will continue in the region. And in Uppsala, they have been very offensive in recent weeks and months. And I have every expectation that it will continue, ”says Damberg.

He expects that the investment in more police forces throughout the country, that the police's more offensive work methods and that the whole of Sweden's authorities together try to get in the gang, in the end gives results.

- But it is not a fast job to reduce the gang's influence on the development of society, says Damberg.

TT: But when do we see a decline in shooting?

- I hope we will see it fairly soon, because I think the offensive way and picking weapons and explosives from criminals will have an effect over time, but I dare not set a timetable, says Damberg.

M requires more

Nor does Moderate jurisprudence spokesman Johan Forssell want to call Rimfrost a failure.

"It is obvious that you have not reached the targets, but I do not doubt that the police have done their utmost here," he says.

However, Forssell points out that the number of shootings in Malmö started to decrease even before Rimfrost. He also fears that the shootings have only moved to other locations in the South region.

Forssell now wants to know how the government intends to handle the situation.

- It requires a completely different political determination and to give the police the resources and tools required, he says.

Forssell points out that the police profession must be made more attractive through a salary investment and paid police training in order to reach the goal of more police officers.

He also calls for example double penalties for gang criminals and the possibility for the police to set up visitation zones.
