In France, the government anticipates the loss of 800,000 jobs

The French government presented on Wednesday its third amending finance bill, a consequence of the coronavirus epidemic. The Minister of Economy Bruno Le Maire spoke of “a considerable shock” on employment.

Our assessment is that we will have by the (next) months next 800,000 jobs, that is to say 2.8% of total employment  ," said Minister of Economy Bruno Le Mayor during his hearing this Wednesday before the Finance Committee of the National Assembly. He called for "  massive public policies to support, accompany all those affected  ".

Among the measures envisaged, the Minister notably mentioned the partial unemployment scheme , the support provided for apprenticeships and possible reductions in charges for businesses.

On Tuesday, the Banque de France for its part estimated that the unemployment rate should exceed 10% at the end of 2020, and climb to a peak above 11.5% in mid-2021, a level "  above historical precedents  ”. And it will, according to her, wait until 2022 to see it descend to 9.7%, against 8.1% before the epidemic.
