To date, Sweden has reported 4,659 deaths as a result of covid-19. This is four times more than Norway, Denmark and Finland together. In terms of number of cases per million inhabitants, Sweden has the fifth highest number of reported deaths worldwide.

Prime Minister Stefan Löfven (S) says that the government has both succeeded and failed in its strategy to prevent the corona virus.

- We do not want a rapid increase and we have succeeded. Healthcare must have the right resources and we have succeeded. We would also protect the elderly, but we have not succeeded, says Stefan Löfven.

Calls Sweden leaderless

During the corona crisis, the level of conflict in Swedish politics has been low. Just over a month ago, Christian Democrats party leader Ebba Busch described it as "right now it's not a question to question the commander".

But in tonight's party leadership debate, she breaks the bourgeoisie and calls the government "dysfunctional" and Sweden leaderless.

- Corona is a tragedy that affects our entire world. We have 21 regions and the responsibility lies with them. We have 290 municipalities and the responsibility lies with them. We have political leadership that told smaller municipalities like Laxå to compete with larger countries like the US and China on protective equipment, ”says Ebba Busch.

"Allow the spread of infection"

Ebba Bush points out that you need to be careful about comparisons with other countries before knowing what the end result will be.

- But what we can say for Sweden is that the large number of people who are grieving is a result of Sweden having the courageous courage to allow a large spread of infection. In February, thousands of Swedes landed on Arlanda from areas that already had a large spread of infection. Then they let them go straight out in the community, she says.

SVT's party leadership debates are usually held in May and October in connection with the release of government and opposition shadow budgets. But this year, the focus is entirely on the coronavirus pandemic.
