It was at the end of August 2019 that a family was caught trying to steal from the Gekås department store. The parents stated in interrogation that they had seen the children fill backpacks from the department store with goods worth SEK 1,800. The parents then only paid for the backpacks and not the goods that they contained, on the grounds that they forgot that there were things in the backpacks.

Put on the kids unpaid outerwear

The children also wore unpaid outerwear from Gekås as they passed out through the cash register and the mother and the children's grandmother were caught with unpaid underwear in their handbags.

After the family's theft attempts were discovered, they paid for the goods, but that did not change the district court's judgment. The parents and the grandmother of the children are sentenced to conditional sentence for attempted theft and each of them must pay 40 daily fines.

The district court considers that the family acted in consensus and intent to steal the goods by exploiting the children for that purpose.
