The New York Times published a video recording reconstructing the facts of the killing of George Floyd, an African American, during his arrest by the police in Minneapolis, moment by moment, an incident that sparked protests in the United States and abroad.

The newspaper relied on surveillance camera recordings, and records of some passers-by on their mobile phones, as well as official documents.

The recording shows police arriving and arresting Floyd following a notice from a store accusing him of buying a pack of cigarettes with a forged $ 20 bill of paper.

The police arrested the man without resisting them, then pulled his bonds and took him to one of their cars, and it appears that he refused to get into the car.

After this, Floyd appears clamped to the ground by three policemen shouting, "I can't breathe, man." Some passersby were protesting against it and warning about his death.

Subsequent Floyd shots appear unconscious, appear dead, and then the police take him to an ambulance.

The George Floyd family and his lawyers have demanded that the first-degree death penalty be applied to police officer Derek Chauvin who appeared in the tapes as he pressed Floyd's neck, and to arrest other two officers who appeared to be crouching on his back on charges of participating in the killing.

Family attorney Tony Rumanouchi confirmed in a press conference that Floyd's autopsy showed that the cause of death was suffocation as a result of pressure on the neck and back.

"It is not only the knee pressure on Floyd's neck that caused his death, but also the weight of the other two police officers on his back ... This prevents the air from reaching his lungs. This makes all the officers who have found the scene criminal and civil responsible," he said.
