The student is approaching and for many high school students the future is uncertain because of the corona crisis.

- It has been very stressful mentally, that you do not know what is happening, both with the student and in the fall. A lot has gone back and forth and you have not been able to plan anything, says the prospective student Hanna to SVT's Agenda.

Youth unemployment has risen from 9 to 11 percent during the corona crisis.

- They are just about to start taking their first tiring step into adulthood, especially those who take the student this spring, and they do it while feeling that the entire labor market is surrendering in front of one's feet, says Mimmi Rönnqvist from Saco student council.

"Very unfair chances"

The Saco Student Council and the Swedish Student Union require measures for students affected by the corona crisis. Among other things, the employment service should be given the task of communicating professional internships to newly graduated high school youth and that the state should cover the cost.

- So that there is an opportunity for companies to pick in young people, without them feeling that it will be a big loss for them, says Mimmi Rönnqvist and continues:

- We also have to cover up for those who now have very unfair opportunities to apply to the university, so that we do not get a whole coronation generation now that is eliminated by this pandemic.

Special selection group

Mimmi Rönnqvist and Ebba Kock also want to see a special selection group for students affected by the corona crisis, when they apply to universities and colleges, because of the distance education they have had other conditions compared to previous years.

- I think that politicians today have a little too short-term perspective when it comes to young people, especially young people in this crisis. They talk about summer law school and summer jobs. These are good things, but it is important for politicians to understand that this is not a summer holiday, it is about the rest of their lives, says Mimmi Rönnqvist.
