The Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, discussed with Russian President Vladimir Putin bilateral relations and a number of regional and international issues, in a telephone conversation held today, Thursday.

A statement issued by the Russian presidency (the Kremlin) said that the two sides touched on international issues, issues of concern to the two countries, and the prevailing conditions in the energy markets in the world.

The statement added that the two sides highly valued the bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of energy and investment, and affirmed their determination to develop relations between the two countries in the fields of investment, military, sports and health cooperation, including cooperation in combating the new epidemic of the Corona virus.

The two sides also discussed the Syrian crisis, and stressed the importance of improving the humanitarian situation there.

Sheikh Tamim held talks during a summit in Tajikistan last June with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stressing the importance of strategic relations between Russia and Qatar and ways to strengthen them.

During that meeting held on the sidelines of the Dushanbe Summit, the Russian President made clear that Russian-Qatari relations are developing, and described Qatar as an important and pivotal partner in the Middle East, noting cooperation in the investment field between the two countries.
