May 24, 2020 North Korea has discussed new policies to "increase its nuclear deterrence". KCNA reports it, reporting on a meeting held under the leadership of leader Kim Jong-un.

Kim, in the KCNA dispatch, presided for the first time since mid-December the meeting of the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party on "new policies to further increase the country's nuclear deterrence", placing "strategic armed forces on a high operational alert in line with general requirements for the construction and development of the country's armed forces ".

On the occasion, "important military passages and organizational and political measures to strengthen the armed forces as a whole" were discussed. KCNA, however, did not provide details on both the "new policies" and when the meeting was held, noting that at the meeting "crucial steps were taken to significantly increase the firepower ability of the artillery pieces of the Korean People's Army. "

Kim emphasized the importance of "achieving monolithic Party leadership" over the military, specifying "key issues that must be constantly kept in the military and political performance of the North Korean armed forces."

The leader signed 7 "orders" related to the military measures discussed, including those to consolidate "the responsibility and roles of major military training institutions", organize "the military command system" and promote "the military rank of officers in command" .

Ri Pyong-chol, known for his strategic role in the development of Northern armaments, was elected vice president of the Central Military Commission.

The meeting was the leader's first public appearance since the inauguration, on May 1, of a fertilizer plant after 20 days of absence during which rumors had multiplied about his presumed precarious state of health, up to speculate the death.
