Many residents of the city of Sulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan region of Iraq expressed their joy of returning to pray in mosques, especially in the blessed month of Ramadan (which is usually characterized by the abundance of mosque goers), after an interruption of two months to prevent an outbreak of the Corona virus.

Residents said that life is gradually returning to normal in the Kurdistan region after the reopening of mosques and restaurants.

The action by the regional government comes after a significant decline in the number of active cases recorded daily.

The provincial authorities had already eased isolation restrictions last month, allowing major companies to reopen.

The worshipers flocked to the Grand Mosque in Sulaimaniyah to participate in the congregational prayer in the mosque for the first time since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

Alaa Ahmed, who is one of the worshipers, expressed his great joy of returning to pray at the Great Mosque of Sulaimaniya after a long interruption due to the Corona virus, and indicated that during the prayer, the separations between the worshipers were taken into consideration so that the distance is one meter between the person and the other.

For his part, Qumairan Muhammad, who is a restaurant owner in Sulaimaniyah, said that his restaurant has been reopened under the supervision of the Health Directorate, which continues to monitor the situation in the city.

He added that his business suffered heavy losses during the closing period, and that he still hopes to obtain financial compensation.
