A criminal act. A truck driver was the victim, on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, of a particularly dangerous scene, on the A26, near Vaudricourt, near Béthune, in Pas-de-Calais. One or more individuals threw a 5 kg jar of fromage blanc from a bridge spanning the highway.
The object came crashing head-on into the windshield of a heavy vehicle traveling towards Calais. "In shock, the window was broken and the driver, despite the stupor, was able to control his vehicle before stopping," said the police, whose motorized platoon of Bethune is responsible for the investigation. The injured man had to be taken to hospital.
Killed by a bag of rubble
"This gesture could have had dramatic consequences, especially if the driver had lost control," said the gendarmerie communications officer, recalling a similar event that ended in the death of a German tourist.
In 2017, three young men had appeared before the assizes of Pas-de-Calais for having killed, three years earlier, the passenger of a van by throwing bags of rubble from the top of a bridge over the A2, near Cambrai. Two had been sentenced to 13 years' imprisonment.
