The statement stressed the intensification of fighting during the past 24 hours with the Transitional Council forces. In the context of recent field developments, Stephen Dujarric, a spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, said on Tuesday that the international organization is calling on all parties concerned in Yemen to stop fighting in Abyan province, and warned of the possibility of stopping 31 assistance programs within weeks due to lack of funding.
The dispute between the transitional and the legitimate government escalated during the past few days after the transitional announced self-administration for the south, which the Yemeni government considered a new coup and in violation of the Riyadh agreement signed last November between the two parties under the supervision of Saudi Arabia, and it has not been implemented until this moment.
