Funding for suspicious seminars. The Lille prosecutor has opened an investigation for the misappropriation of public funds targeting the activity of certain regional advisers from the Hauts-de-France of the majority, LR and UDI, according to concordant sources, confirming information from Challenges .
"Following the reporting of budgetary violations to the Hauts-de-France regional council, the Lille prosecutor's office seized the regional directorate of the judicial police, on February 23, of an investigation by the head of embezzlement of public funds", a he told AFP this Thursday.
Reporting done in fall 2019
According to a source close to the file, this is an investigation opened after the report made in the fall of 2019 by the leader of RN regional advisers, Philippe Eymery, aimed at funding seminars for regional elected representatives of the majority, LR and UDI.
"This is not news, it is the normal process, the logical continuation of the report," says one in the entourage of Xavier Bertrand (ex-LR), president of the regional council.
The total of the sums targeted by this report amounts to around 15,300 euros for three seminars held in 2018 and 2019, according to Challenges.
A story of meals
"We found things unclear, we asked for explanations from the majority that we did not have," reports AFP Philippe Eymery. He suspects an "abnormal use of public money" for the organization of these seminars.
"When you make a seminar of a political group, that it is taken over by the central administration, there is illegal funding", he believes, explaining having made a report on the basis of Article 40 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
In his letter to the prosecutor, quoted by the magazine, the elected RN denounces the assumption of responsibility for these seminars, "including meals", by the regional council, which would violate the law on the financing of political life and the regulations interior of the Hauts-de-France regional council.
