Emirati journalist Ahmed Al-Shaybah Al-Nuaimi said today that the Emirati society is living in a state of fear and terrorism because of the pursuit of activists against the background of opinion cases and fabricating various charges against them.

Al-Nuaimi's speech came on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the death of the Emirati detainee Alia Abdel Nour inside Al-Wathba prison in the Emirates, after a struggle with cancer and medical neglect by the authorities.

Al-Nuaimi described the incident of Abdel-Nour's death as a traumatic event that the Emirati society cannot forget, calling on the authorities to review their accounts in dealing with the people of the Emirates.

Official denial
Days after the death of Alia Abd al-Nur, a spokesman for the Public Prosecution in the Emirates denied what had been circulated regarding the circumstances of the death of the detainee, saying that the authorities gave them specialized medical attention, but the detainee rejected her every time.

Concerning the charge for which Alia was arrested, the Public Prosecutor said that it relates to the creation and management of accounts on electronic sites, through which she transmitted encrypted messages between members of al-Qaeda to be a mediator to communicate with them, and to provide the members of the organization with funds raised for this purpose.
