Two people have been taken to hospitals with serious injuries following a frontal crash in Malmö, says the rescue service Syd. The accident happened when two cars collided at the Sallerup traffic stop, after a motorist drove towards the direction of travel.

One of the injured is an elderly man, according to the emergency services. They do not yet have information about the other injured person.

Traveled at high speed

Just before 8pm on Saturday, police from the Öresund Bridge traffic center were alerted about the motorist, who was driving in the direction towards Sweden. The journey then continued past central Malmö.

"Testimonials indicate that this motorist has been traveling at high speed," says Rickard Lundqvist, press spokesman for the South Police Region.

Rescue work is ongoing and the police have not issued any criminal charges. The road is blocked in a southbound direction.
