The 150 members of the citizens' convention on the climate transmitted 50 proposals so that "the financing mobilized within the framework of the exit of crisis is socially acceptable, arrowed towards green solutions" with investments towards "sectors of future respectful of weather".

The Citizen's Climate Convention (CCC) continues its mission. She sent Friday 50 proposals to the executive to create "a different economic and societal model, more human and more resilient", to get out of the crisis caused by the coronavirus.

Established by the government after the "yellow vests" crisis, the CCC is made up of 150 citizens representing French society and must lead to measures to combat global warming "in a logic of social justice".

Even before the finalization of its work, the Convention decided to "immediately share a number of its proposals with the executive", according to a press release. These measures have not been made public because they have not been voted on by the Convention in plenary session and are not fully finalized. The Covid-19 health crisis "is apparently not unrelated to climate change and environmental degradation", note the citizens.

Avoiding the pitfalls of the 2008 crisis

While the government has just doubled its emergency plan for the economy to 100 billion euros, the members of the Convention demand that "the financing mobilized within the framework of the exit from the crisis be socially acceptable, directed towards solutions green "and that investments go to" future sectors that respect the climate ". "We must absolutely avoid the pitfalls of the 2008 crisis, the revival of which gave rise to (...) investments in fossil fuels", according to a statement published on the website www.conventioncitoyennepourleclimat.fr

The members of the Convention, aged 16 to 80 and coming from all over France, call for the establishment of a "new model of society". They plead for "a regulation of globalization in favor of the climate", accompanied by a "relocation of the activities of strategic sectors to ensure our food, health and energy security", all while improving "our collective health and well-being ". The confinement showed for them "how reactive the French are to the emergency". They ask that, more than ever, the comments of citizens be taken into account.

Emmanuel Macron had promised in January that "strong decisions" would be taken on the basis of the final proposals of the Convention to combat global warming, some of which may be subject to a referendum. The last session of the CCC, which was to be held in early April after six months of work, has been postponed indefinitely.
