April 6, 2020 British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was hospitalized 10 days after testing positive for coronavirus and having experienced various symptoms including high fever. Johnson's admission, despite Downing Street denials, questions his ability to lead the UK during the pandemic. According to Downing Street sources, this is a precautionary step, not an emergency hospitalization, and that the premier will remain in the hospital "for as long as necessary", but will remain responsible for the government and will be in regular contact with his staff and his ministers.

Although officially it would be an examination hospital, the doubts remain: the pound lost ground against the dollar and the euro overnight, an expression of nervousness on the foreign exchange market over British political stability. If Boris Johnson's health worsens, Dominic Raab, first secretary of state, will replace him. Rahab himself will chair a meeting this morning by the government's Covid19 committee, the structure that guides the British response to the pandemic.

In Great Britain the number of coronavirus deaths rose by 621 in the last 24 hours recorded (up to 4,934 in total). The contagions, however, record a record peak, jumping from 41,903 on Saturday to 47,806, or 5,903 more. In the United Kingdom, Covid-19 deaths could be between 7,000 and just over 20,000, given the government's choices. The epidemiologist Neil Ferguson of Imperial College London said this to the BBC.
