The announcement was made this Saturday by the Spanish Prime Minister: the extension for two weeks of the confinement of the country to curb the Covid-19 pandemic. The Council of Ministers next Tuesday will seek authorization from the Chamber of Deputies to continue, for the second time, the state of alert.

It is because the confinement is bearing fruit that it will be extended by 15 days. In fact, as a percentage, the increase in the number of cases has slowed down gradually since the middle of last week. And then, the number of deaths has just dropped two days in a row after the record 950 deaths in just 24 hours. It was Thursday.

While his 47 million citizens are consigned to their homes except - as is the case in France - to buy food and medicine or work if their activity is "essential" to the nation, Pedro Sanchez, the Prime Minister takes stock: “ We know that the last three weeks of collective isolation are paying off: stop the spread, treat the sick and save lives. "

Indeed, containment spreads the impact of this coronavirus. And therefore to save precious time. However, in this race against the clock, there is a positive thrill. Spanish hospitals, overwhelmed by the influx into intensive care units, are starting to see a slight decrease in the number of patients.

Until this extension of "stay absolutely at home" can contain the worst, Spain remains the second most bereaved country in the world - after Italy - with nearly 12,000 deaths and 125,000 confirmed cases.
