The crime rate in Dubai has decreased by 50% during the last two months, in light of the exceptional measures taken by the Dubai Police, during the current period, in the framework of combating the spread of the Corona virus, and most of the population adheres to the instructions of the relevant authorities on the need to adhere to stay at home, and not to go out except necessary during Daytime, and not going out during the national sterilization program, which runs from eight in the evening until six in the morning the next day.

The Assistant Commander in Chief of Dubai Police for Criminal Investigation Affairs, Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, told «Emirates Today» that there is a significant decrease in the crime index, especially those that are related to human intensity in certain areas, such as: pickpocketing in markets, minor thefts, and burglary Homes, quarrels, and so on, mainly attributing this to a noticeable increase in community awareness.

He added, “We must value the role that community members play today, at two different levels. The first is their great commitment to the advice and instructions addressed to them by health and security agencies linked to the commitment of their homes, and the second is their cooperation with the security services in reporting any suspicious activities or behaviors. False from people, and also includes reporting rumors spread by some via social networks, the Internet, and other cybercrime via the Dubai Police (e-crime) platform. ”

Al-Mansouri explained that it is natural, in light of the commitment of people to their homes, the disappearance of house robbery crimes, because these thieves are targeting homes without a population, and this is difficult now.

Measured by theft of bank customers, these crimes are related to the bank’s review and withdrawal of money, and in the absence of this need, in conjunction with the current conditions, there is a significant decrease in the reporting index.

He pointed out that the commitment of the community members, and their awareness increasing clearly, helps the police in carrying out other more important duties, within the efforts made by the state to protect people from the dangers of the Corona virus, stressing that the community is a major and important partner, in any success achieved in this framework.

He stressed that Dubai Police is keen to diversify the means of communication with it by members of the community, but has developed rapid technologies around the clock, such as: "e-crime" platform, which allows receiving information, complaints and reports with ease and confidentiality, appreciating the cooperation of a large number of people with the police , Through this important platform. The Dubai police arrested two people: the first was an Asian who appealed to the public, during a video recorded and published, to leave the houses, and a European woman who underestimated the procedures followed and incited individuals to take to the streets.

Act consciously

The Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police for Criminal Investigation Affairs, Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al-Mansoori, appealed to the members of society to act consciously and with commitment, during this period, especially with regard to staying at home, not going out except for necessity, and not turning into a tool for spreading rumors and false news, for its negative impact In the efforts made by the state to protect society, and to avoid them being subject to legal accountability.
