Russian Foreign Ministry called for lifting sanctions in a pandemic

The ministry emphasized that in the context of the spread of coronavirus, the issue of removing such barriers is of particular relevance, including in order to provide the countries affected by the restrictions with the necessary medical supplies.

The Foreign Ministry said that international restrictions imposed by the UN Security Council, "should not become a brake in the fight against a pandemic."

“Sanctions regimes of the Security Council provide for exceptions and exceptions of a humanitarian nature. It is necessary that these safety mechanisms work smoothly and do not fail due to the politicized installations of individual states, ”the department noted.

On March 26, Russia submitted to the UN General Assembly an initiative to adopt a declaration of solidarity in the fight against coronavirus infection COVID-19.
