Coronavirus: police checks frowned upon by populations

Police in India are trying to enforce containment with sticks. In China, tensions are high right now between the people of Wuhan and the police. In Europe too, the situation is sometimes tense between the police and the French or the British, who find it hard to bear being controlled.

Police officers more or less well equipped to protect themselves from the virus are on the front lines all over the world. They sometimes use brutal methods in the face of reluctant people.

In France, with a lot of videos, complaints are multiplying on social networks against abusive police checks. Human rights organizations Human Rights Watch and the League for Human Rights denounce the use of violent methods by the French police to enforce confinement. The incidents listed mainly take place on the outskirts of large cities.

In the United Kingdom, where containment is only taking place, police checkpoints, the use of drones and surveillance cameras irritate and worry part of the population. British police officers responsible for enforcing the instructions to curb the spread of the virus have seen their power strengthened.

For the association for the defense of liberties Big Brother Watch, if it is " understandable " that the police disperse rallies, "to require motorists of the details of their trips goes beyond the limits ". However, a real surveillance system is being put in place.
