This is stated in a statement by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, published on the page of State Department spokesman Morgan Ortagus on Twitter.

“The US government today sets a personnel limit for certain PRC-controlled state-owned media in the United States, namely, for the five organizations that were designated by the US Department of State on February 18, 2020 as foreign representations of the People’s Republic of China,” said Pompeo.

He explained that appropriate measures limit the number of Chinese citizens who are allowed to work in these media in the United States.

Pompeo noted that this decision "is not based on any content created by these organizations, and does not impose any restrictions on what these organizations can publish in the United States."

“Our goal is reciprocity. As in other areas of relations between the USA and China, we strive to create long overdue equal conditions. We hope that these actions will push Beijing towards a more equitable and mutual approach to the American and other foreign press in China, ”the Secretary of State added.

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Chinese authorities revoked the accreditation of three journalists of the newspaper after the publication published the article "China is a real Asian patient."

Pompeo, commenting on this situation, said that Washington was considering a “wide range of actions” that could be taken.

Later, a representative of the US embassy in Beijing was summoned to the Chinese Foreign Ministry in connection with a statement by the US Secretary of State.
