The national news at SVT has in the past year raised the level of ambition for investigative journalism. We have very good collaborations with our sister editorial assignments Review and Documents from within that provide valuable material for our news broadcasts and to SVT.se. But we wanted to take a complementary position in the excavation with quick-footed reviews in the middle of the news.

"Put together a trench"

With the support of the excavator Nils Hanson, who for many years led Assignment review, we have put together an excavator and developed guidelines to ensure a high level of method work and editorial delivery.

One of the very first jobs that the tomb hub produced called climate impact from the large cruise ships located at the quay in the middle of Stockholm and which have the engines running hour after hour.

Black smoke emits from the ships chimneys, while paradoxically it is forbidden for parked cars to idle for more than a minute.

This revelation, signed by Oskar Jönsson, Stefan Jansson and Linnea Carlén, is now competing for one of the coveted gold spades.

"The reviewing and independent journalism is strong"

Marja Grill and Carolina Jemsby have shown how children feel bad when the social services fail to fulfill their mission, an important review that gave voice to those who have no voice. This dig, too, competes for one of the coveted gold spades.

Our skilled data journalists Linda Larsson Kakuli, Linnéa Heppling, Fredrik Edgren, Ola Hjalmarsson and Oskar Nyqvist are nominated for the heavy Swedbank disclosure - together with colleagues from Assignment Review Joachim Dyfvermark, Axel Gordh Humlesjö and Per Agerman. Here is all the material collected.

It is a rocky starting field with no less than 31 heavy digs competing. It is good to see that the investigative and independent journalism is strong in Sweden.
