Almost thirty residents of the municipality of La Aldea de San Nicolás , in Gran Canaria, have been evacuated tonight by the fire that originated in the afternoon in the area of the Tasarte Valley , in the northwest of the Island. It has spread rapidly due to the strong wind gusts that affect the Canary Islands since this Saturday. To this the dryness of the environment is added by the intense calm that surrounds the Archipelago, and that has forced to cancel the aerial operations of three airports of the Canary Islands : the one of Gran Canaria, Tenerife South and Tenerife North, by very low visibility.

The evacuated neighbors have been transferred to the sports center of La Aldea , which has been enabled so that they can spend the night, although some will sleep at the family's home.

Several firefighters have moved to the area of the fire, not only from the municipality of La Aldea, but also from the South Island Park, Gáldar and a fire unit of the Island Council of Gran Canaria. In addition, the Emergency Military Unit has also been activated .

Mayor La Aldea, Tomás Pérez , is in the area following the work of extinction and lives with uncertainty the next few hours because "it is expected, according to the weather forecast, that the wind will rise during the night." Pérez says that "I am quite worried because the streaks are very strong and, in addition, the fire has several active fronts that are moving very fast ."

Given the situation, the residents of the Tasarte nucleus, also in the area, have been confined to their homes as a precaution. From the town hall they ask that they close doors and windows, and evacuate their homes when technicians advise. If necessary they would be transferred to the coast of the municipality, since the access to the core of La Aldea and Mogan are blocked by fire.

Miraculous is a neighbor of Tasarte. She and her husband live in the houses closest to the fire. She says she is "very scared" because "the wind is blowing very hard and the smoke is very dense . " She has decided to spend the night at the house of a sister who lives, below, near the beach, because "the fire is very close and now you see the flames." This neighbor says that "I've taken only clothes and nothing else." Her husband has stayed in the house following the technicians' requests to keep the doors and windows closed. "I am calling him because I prefer him to come down. I am not calm. I have told him that the material does not matter," says this neighbor.

Mayor La Aldea is confident that the fire does not reach the natural site of Inagua , although it seems that one of the fronts of the fire has reached the side walls of the ravine.

According to sources from the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, the fire originated around km 44 of GC 200, around 18:30 in the afternoon. It is recommended that citizens do not circulate in this way because it is the only road to reach the fire zone and can be used by emergency services.
