From our special correspondent in Brussels,

What does the President in power matter, whether it be Jacques Chirac, Nicolas Sarkozy or François Hollande, when it comes to negotiating the European budget , it is always the common agricultural policy that France sets up as " absolute priority ".

Emmanuel Macron will be no exception to the rule. He who usually prefers to talk about climate or digital challenges can only go back to a classic posture: namely that France defends first and foremost the huge jackpot of the CAP, more than a third of the European budget, which primarily benefits French farmers, many of whom live on a European infusion.

The planned blow of 50 billion euros on aid to European farmers is therefore deemed unacceptable by the Élysée Palace. The CAP " is not has been ", justifies the French government, which is however ready to " green " the content.

Also expected at the Agricultural Show

Chance of the calendar, Emmanuel Macron will pass from the corridors of the European Council this Friday to the aisles of the Agricultural Show this Saturday. A lounge where, an adviser recognizes, the president is expected to defend his CAP. And Emmanuel Macron will certainly not want to miss this meeting within four weeks of the first round of the municipal elections.
