The defense of the young woman accused of murdering her nine-stabbed newborn daughter has asked for her acquittal by considering that she committed the crime in the middle of a "psychotic outbreak" without being "fully responsible" for what she was doing, to claim, if there were conviction, apply incomplete exemption for severe depression.

Faced with the jury in the trial initiated Tuesday at the Provincial Court of Madrid to Sonia BA, for whom the Prosecutor's Office asks for 22 years in prison, the defense lawyer has avoided opening the door to discussions about the authorship of the facts: "Sonia was the cause, she herself will say "that killed her.

The lawyer has stressed that the accused enjoyed "a normal life" until she suffered an "explosive cocktail" as a result of both a psychotic depression and a dissociative amnesia without being, according to him, detected. "There was no warning - he stressed - that something so tremendous was going to happen."

He has explained that the mental health of the young woman, 20 years old and with a son she was at 16, has improved in prison for the treatment of specialists , a circumstance for which she has recommended that she be admitted to a psychiatric center instead from in jail.

In his brief, read at the jury hearing, the lawyer points out that the defendant had altered behavior since she was studying high school in an institute whose workers advised the family to put her in the hands of professionals.

Crime in Alcala

According to the defense, Sonia BA tried to take her own life because of a "black shadow" that spoke to her and encouraged her to commit suicide.

For the Prosecutor's Office, on the other hand, the defendant killed her daughter "in cold blood and deliberately" as soon as she was born on the night of February 20, 2018 in a house she shared with her boyfriend in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid), some made by those who attributed a crime of murder with the aggravating relationship.

The Public Ministry reports in its provisional conclusions that the defendant had just reached the age of majority when she stabbed the baby without any family member knowing she was pregnant and without an identified father, since DNA tests ruled out that she was the couple with whom lived together.

About five in the morning, the girl broke waters in the living room of the house and gave birth to a girl, from whom she separated when she cut the umbilical cord.

The defendant stabbed the baby up to nine times with scissors before cleaning the blood with paper towels, which she put, next to the corpse and the placenta, in plastic bags inside a backpack . Then he cleaned the room, took a shower and went to bed, always according to the prosecutor's account.

It was the mother and sister of the boyfriend who found the backpack three days later with the deceased baby and the remains of the birth when going to collect personal effects of the young woman, admitted to the hospital for a tear and vaginal bleeding.

The trial will continue tomorrow Wednesday with the defendant's statement, in provisional prison from February 23, 2018.
