A caracal. - Jamel el Montassir

During the passage of the Ciara storm a caracal escaped from its enclosure in Lillebonne (Seine-Maritime). This feline, very rare in France, was finally captured this Tuesday after ten days of research, reports Paris-Normandy .

But the animal, long confused with a lynx by the authorities and the media, was not directly handed over to its owner. The latter does not have the certificate of capacity for the maintenance of animals of non-domestic species, a document essential to possess such an animal.

Bought 1,500 euros in Germany

During the entire 11-month-old caracal runaway, Internet users posted photos when they crossed his path. This is how its owner was able to follow its path. At the time of her capture, the woman was present and called her feline to take him into her cage.

She explained to the gendarmes that she had bought this animal in Germany in the summer of 2019 for 1,500 euros. The animal is subject to serious follow-up with a veterinary clinic and is vaccinated and microchipped. Pending a court decision, the feline was entrusted to a person holding the famous certificate.
