In the spring of 2019, a pilot project was carried out by NFC, National Forensic Center.

- It turned out well. In 80 cases, we found a potential candidate in 25 percent of cases. This means that it has given people a look at, says forensic scientist Elisabet Leitet.

Waiting for IT system

In the Swedish model, a manual analysis will then be carried out. Although the technology is thus producing good results in police investigations, the European Commission is expected to introduce regulations on Wednesday.

Face recognition would be launched in the country during the spring, but work is not yet underway because of an IT system waiting.

- The forecast is now in May, or at least in 2020.

"Much rumor"

Face recognition is already used for border controls, for example. Leitet therefore does not believe that all uses will be banned.

- It will be exciting to follow what happens on Wednesday. There have been many rumors. The type of technology we intend to use should not be confused with face recognition live.
