The BnF is offering a large-scale exhibition devoted to the multifaceted work of JRR Tolkien, a brilliant Oxford professor and creator of worlds, who continues to live in the imagination of a very large audience. The 300 or so exhibits highlight both the man and his work. For the first time in France, many original manuscripts and drawings by Tolkien are presented. At the same time, a selection of exceptional pieces from most of the BnF's collections provides a context for this artistic and literary creation.

The Petit Palais presents for the first time in France a retrospective dedicated to the Neapolitan painter Luca Giordano (1634-1705), one of the most brilliant artists of the 17th century in Europe. The exhibition highlights the exceptional virtuosity of this glory of the Seicento through the presentation of nearly 90 works, monumental paintings and drawings, brought together thanks to the exceptional loans of the Capodimonte museum in Naples, the main churches of the city and of numerous European institutions including the Prado Museum. With the exhibition on the sculptor Vincenzo Gemito (1852-1929), this retrospective is the second part of the season that the Petit Palais is devoting to Naples this fall in partnership with the Capodimonte museum.
