- I am very happy. I have been working on this project for eleven years, says City Manager Lars-Erik Rönnlund.

The remediation work has been a collaboration between the state, the companies that conducted operations on the site and Hultsfred's municipality. The final bill for Hultsfred Municipality is believed to land at SEK 18 million. But now the municipality owns the land and Lars-Erik Rönnlund believes that the project is a very good deal for the Hultsfred residents.

- If we were to clear virgin land to create new industrial land, it would have cost us about SEK 45 million. So that's our alternative cost.

The biggest gain, however, is the environmental gain, he says.

- In a hundred years, I think they remember us because we got the lead. There is a huge water supply from the ice age beneath us that is estimated to be able to supply 100,000 people with water. Now we have prevented lead from being leached into that water.
