A fourth suspect was arrested on Wednesday in Eure-et-Loir as part of the investigation into the death of a policeman mown by a van during an intervention in early January near Lyon, we learned from concordant sources.

The suspect was fortuitously arrested in the commune of Vernouillet by gendarmes as part of an open investigation for facts completely unrelated to the Lyon drama, drug trafficking, according to these sources. "The person gave an identity that was not the right one, but, thanks to our tools, we managed to determine his real identity, which was then confirmed with fingerprints," said the Norman gendarmerie. This young man of 20, from Villeurbanne (Rhône), was handed over to the judicial police.

Three suspects in pretrial detention

Franck Labois, a 45-year-old policeman assigned to the Operational Support Group (GAO) at the Sûreté départementale du Rhône, was cut down during the night of January 10 to 11 during an intervention targeting individuals suspected of being involved in a gang robbery case organized in Bron, a city bordering Lyon. He died of his injuries on January 13.

Three suspects are already in pre-trial detention in this case, including the driver of the van and a 15-year-old boy. An official tribute, in the presence in particular of the Minister of the Interior Christophe Castaner, was paid to the policeman on January 17. The Knight of the Legion of Honor badges were awarded posthumously to the police officer, who was also elevated to the rank of captain.
