Assignment review, in collaboration with SVT Gävleborg, has examined a farm in Hälsingland which delivers tens of thousands of liters of milk to Arla each week.

Unique pictures and videos from inside the yard reveal lean cows and an extremely dirty environment inside the barn. But neither the farm's owner nor the LRF, the Swedish National Farmers' Association, wants to answer questions about animal husbandry.

"Can't pronounce us"

Communications Director Caroline Elisabeth Starck is not at first interested in what the films and pictures show, but requires to find out who filmed and when.

When Assignment Review Reporter refers to the source protection and declares that they cannot obtain that information, Arla changes its explanation to not participate in the program:

"You have to understand that we can't comment on images we don't know where they come from," says the communications director.

Do not want to take part in the report

Arla then changes his position again, having been told that the cows can be identified and linked to the farm in question. Now the company declares that they do not want to discuss a single individual in the media - since, among other things, they think the farmer is not a company.

They also write in an e-mail that they previously temporarily shut down the milk delivery from the farm and have recently done a review on the farm which they believe did not show any serious deficiencies.

"All animals were in good condition and had good quality feed," writes the communications director.

Arla also writes that they rely on the County Administrative Board's checks and await the ongoing preliminary investigation.
