A magnitude 7.7 earthquake shook the Caribbean between Cuba and Jamaica on Tuesday, triggering a tsunami alert in the region, American specialist centers announced.

- EMSC (@LastQuake) January 28, 2020The epicenter of the earthquake was located at sea, south of the island of Cuba and northwest of that of Jamaica, at a depth estimated at 10 kilometers, said the American Institute of Geophysics (USGS ), which revised upwards a first estimate of magnitude 7.3.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, which also monitors other seas, issued a tsunami alert in the process.
