Tests performed on a patient admitted to the Cruces hospital in Barakaldo (Bizkaia) have ruled out that the pneumonia she suffers was associated with the coronavirus that extends from the Chinese province of Wuhan, sources from the Ministry of Health have informed Efe.

The analysis was sent to the National Microbiology Center of Majadahonda (Madrid), a reference laboratory, to perform a specific analysis.

The woman, who has recently returned from the Chinese province of Wuhan and has symptoms associated with this disease, had been admitted in solitary confinement at the Cruces hospital.

The Minister of Health, S alvador Illa, stressed on Saturday that "the mechanisms for prevention and early detection" that the Government has put in place "are working" , as he believes shows that two other cases have already been ruled out .

"Those cases that may be suspected of being affected by this virus are detected first and verified later," he emphasized.

He also recalled that on Friday the Center for Coordination of Alerts and Emergencies of the Ministry, together with experts and autonomous communities, activated an action protocol that stipulates how to proceed for what, he insisted, "we are prepared."
