Swarms of desert locusts invaded a number of cities, valleys and agricultural fields in some districts of Taiz Governorate since the early morning hours of Thursday.

Yemenis interacted with the locust outbreak on social media, and published videos and pictures showing the invasion of large areas in Taiz Governorate, central Yemen, and citizens of the governorate documented videos showing massive groups of locusts during their invasion of Taiz.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations earlier warned that locusts would pose the greatest threat to agricultural production in Yemen because of its continuous breeding, and said it could harm seasonal agricultural crops and local economies, affecting food security and the livelihoods of the country's population.
