Right now the construction of the new cultural house "Sara" is to be completed by 2021. The area around the old bus square has been transformed into a large construction site and the impending development is felt for the Red Cross, which has its second hand shop with café in close proximity to the building .

In the parking lot that visitors previously used, now stands barracks and the premises are surrounded by building fences. This is something that affects the number of visitors and thus the revenue.

- This has meant a decrease in sales of up to 25 per cent and this creates consequences for our social activities that are about influencing loneliness and exclusion, says Alexandra Sundberg, Head of Operations.

Politicians say no to disruption support

The Red Cross has applied for a disturbance grant from the municipality of SEK 300,000 to cover the revenue lost during the construction period.

The politicians in the municipality's working committee have discussed the matter and say no to the disruption support. Municipal Councilor Lorents Burman (S) says that if the Red Cross were to receive compensation, more people affected would also want it.

- I think that an exception is made when the Red Cross is not primarily a commercial activity but there is a humanitarian perspective that is about being able to provide social support for those who need it, he says.

The issue will be raised again by the municipal council on February 4th.
