"We will not marry. It is as if we were already"

In 2002 the city of Seville hosted the summit of the Heads of State and Government of the European Union. The death at the hands of the police, a year earlier, of activist Carlo Giuliani during clashes with anti-system protesters in the G-8 of Genoa turned the Sevillian encounter into an informative volcano, between demonstrations and counter-summits. Hence the surprise when Antonio García Ferreras, news director of the SER network and then director of the chain itself , appeared in the Andalusian capital with a young and unknown journalist in flip flops , who should be responsible for covering the meeting: Ana Shepherd.

Over time, Ferreras and Pastor have become one of the most powerful couples in Spanish journalism . After serving as the head of communication for Real Madrid (his relationship with Florentino Pérez is excellent), he is the main figure in La Sexta , at the head of the program 'Al Rojo Rojo'. She, on the other hand, has traveled a more intricate path through the world of informational companies.

After studying journalism at the San Pablo-CEU University , Pastor began as a fellow in the SER chain, where he coincided with Jesús Cintora , also a face-to-face presenter known for his participation in the news of Cuatro and, currently, in spaces of La Sexta.

From the PRISA network, he made the leap to Spanish Television in 2006 , as the presenter of the space '59 seconds'. From there, she was the host of the talk show 'The Breakfasts of TVE', as of 2009. The victory of the PP in the general elections of 2011 meant Pastor's departure to CNN in Spanish and, immediately, to the chain of his partner , The sixth.

At the radio station of Atresmedia , since 2013, the program 'The objective' has been conducted, in which interviews with famous people are mixed with analysis of current issues. It was precisely in this space where the project with which it has been 'emancipated' began to take shape. The program coincided with the beginning of the fashion of the verification of data ('fact-checking') that politicians and public spokesmen launch in their interventions. That is, a weapon against the 'fake-news'. Initially, 'The objective' commissioned this mission to Damn Newspaper Library, later 'emancipated' as 'Maldita.es'.

But in October 2017, Pastor registered a new company, Newtral Media Audiovisual SLU , in which it appears as sole administrator, and was established with a share capital of 5,000 euros. Newtral is presented as a team "formed by independent journalists without any relationship with any political party, private lobby or similar organization." They also say that they are "extremely careful with the content we share through the official social networks of Newtral. We do not support any political or activist movement, we do not share or retweet organized or partisan campaigns. We do not do activism. We do not defend ideologies. We are journalists. is a basic requirement to be part of the data verification team. "

Newtral provides services to La Sexta programs (such as 'Al Rojo Rojo') and produces Ana Pastor's television spaces. This is the case of 'Where were you then', whose third season presents this Wednesday in 'El Hormiguero', the program by Pablo Motos. He currently has a team of almost 70 workers and Tomás Pastor, Ana's brother, is the CEO of the company .

According to data from the 'Digital Journalist' website, Newtral billed 360,000 euros in the first half of 2019 , of which most would correspond to the realization of 'Where were you then' for La Sexta. In addition, in May 2019, it registered another company, also as sole administrator, Benewtral SL, with a share capital of 3,000 euros.

In spite of his declaration of principles, there are many voices that accuse Newtral of the vices that, supposedly, he intends to combat. The journalist Federico Jiménez Losantos calls it 'Newtrola', a nickname that has spread through social networks, and others underline its bias in favor of political formations such as Podemos, PSOE and the independence parties , and against PP, Citizens and Vox.
