It was on January 8 that Prince Harry and Meghan announced that they would step back from the role of "senior" royalty.

And in a speech posted on the Prince Couple's Instagram account on Sunday night, Prince Harry tells him that he and his wife are leaving their royal duties.

The couple has previously expressed difficulties in living a public life, and in recent years has been subjected to heavy surveillance in the tabloid press.

- They saw it as unreasonable and unfair and wanted to fight against, says Tom Bradby in the documentary "Harry & Meghan: a royal house in crisis?".

Criticized for renovation

In the press, Harry and Meghan have been criticized, among other things, for the costly renovation of their home and for choosing private flights for the holiday trip, while also being involved in climate issues.

In the fall, the couple broke away from reporting in the press by suing a British tabloid who published one of Meghan's private letters to his father.

According to a statement from the Queen and the British court, Harry and Meghan will now have to repay the approximately SEK 30 million in tax money that went into renovating the home. The couple will no longer receive financial compensation for royal assignments, nor will they formally represent the queen, the BBC writes.
