"East Mediterranean Gas Forum" Meeting Confirms Promotion of Energy Cooperation January 17 6:28

As the development of gas fields in the Eastern Mediterranean progressed, ministerial meetings of the “Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum” were held by seven coastal countries and regions such as Egypt and Israel, confirming that energy cooperation would be further advanced. However, Turkey, which is out of this framework, has been competing with gas field development and has become a new fire in this region.

The forum was launched last January by Egypt and Israel on the eastern Mediterranean coast, and seven nations and regions, including Greece and Cyprus, to deepen their cooperation in developing gas fields and supplying gas. A ministerial meeting was held in the capital city of Cairo.

The meeting confirmed that further energy cooperation would be pursued, including plans to export LNG (liquefied natural gas) from Egyptian gas to the European market in Egypt and construction of a pipeline connecting Israel's offshore and Greece.

Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said, "The recent discovery of gas fields has increased the importance of the Forum and we would like to work together to meet each other's needs."

On the other hand, Turkey, which is outside this framework, has launched its own gas field development in the Eastern Mediterranean and has been competing with the provisional government of Libya on the opposite bank by establishing an exclusive economic zone. , Which has rallied the forum's member nations and is a new breed of fire in the region.
