Saturday, a resting gendarme came to the aid of a woman, who was allegedly the victim of violence, in Montpellier (Hérault). The member was in his personal car with his wife and 16-month-old daughter at a red light.

According to the gendarmerie services, he then saw, in the vehicle next door, a man suspected of assaulting the passenger, his partner.

Arrested by police

He then made "a sign to the driver asking him to stop his actions, without result," said the gendarmerie. According to the same source, the gendarme then got out of his vehicle to help the victim, and stood in front of the driver's door, suspected of having threatened him with a knife.

The soldier allegedly managed to steal the weapon, informing him in passing of his status as a gendarme. The suspect was eventually arrested by police.
