05 January 2020 The polling stations for the presidential election are open at 7 am in Croatia. The challenge is between the outgoing president, the conservative Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic, and the former Social Democratic premier, Zoran Milanovic. The outcome is very uncertain, a very close battle is expected at the last vote.

According to the latest polls Milanovic, candidate of the united center-left, is given a slight advantage with a 39.9% consensus, against the 38.8% of Kitarovic, who enjoys the support of the conservatives of Premier Andrej Plenkovic.

A total of 3.8 million are entitled to vote, of which almost two hundred thousand are part of the Croatian diaspora. The nearly 6,500 polling stations will remain open until 7pm, when exit polls are released.
