Kazakhstan observes this Saturday, December 28, a day of national mourning, after the crash of an airliner which claimed the lives of twelve people, Friday.

The aircraft of the low-cost company Bek Air transported a hundred passengers, forty of whom are still hospitalized. Russia, China and the European Union have extended their condolences to the country, while an investigation has been opened by the Interior Ministry.

In the country, the emotion is great and calls for donations of money and blood for the victims were launched by the city of Almaty, while in Noursoultan, the Kazakh capital, the largest flag of the country has been at half mast.

Black boxes transferred to Moscow

We will have to wait for the analysis of the black boxes, transferred to Moscow, to know the origins of the drama. Technical problem, human error or unfavorable weather conditions? The circumstances of the crash remain, for the moment, very vague.

When taking off from Almaty, the country's economic lung, the tail of the plane hit the runway twice. The aircraft managed to take off, but the Fokker-100, built in 1996, crashed fifteen minutes later in a concrete dwelling. A survivor described moments earlier a " terrible " noise, followed by a rapid loss of altitude.

The conclusions of the investigation should be known around January 10; until then, all Bek Air, which describes itself as the country's first low-cost airline, will remain grounded.
